The Mudejar heritage of our partner villages returns to the showcase of the tourism fair Aratur

Territorio Mudéjar is taking part for the sixth year in the ARATUR tourism fair in Argon and we are doing so with our heritage projects developed with our partner town councils.

Our stand will once again become a space to show what Mudejar is through the monuments, town planning, houses, landscape, trades and services of each locality.

In our stand you can make ‘visits to the Mudejar’ with historical-artistic explanations of the localities (each one in a schedule) and also of the projects that we develop there, such as the routes or the projects on route, among others.

At the end of each presentation, participants can take part in a draw for three trips to one or two partner locations.

During the fair, our stand was visited by the Minister for the Environment and Tourism, Manuel Blasco; the Director General of Tourism, Jorge Moncada; the Deputy for Tourism of the DPZ, Cristina Palacín; the Councillor for Culture and Tourism of Zaragoza City Council, Sara Fernández; the Member of the Aragonese Parliament, Leticia Soria; the Councillor of Zaragoza City Council, Armando Martínez, and Manuel Teruel, President of the Zaragoza Trade Fair, among others.

Territorio Mudéjar takes part in Aratur 2021, the tourism fair in Aragon

Territorio Mudéjar is taking part in Aratur 2021, the Aragonese tourism fair held at the Zaragoza conference centre. It does so with a stand where it informs about how the entity works with, by and for the Mudejar. There you can also see the special travelling exhibition on the 20th anniversary of the designation of Mudejar architecture as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Those interested can take part in 15-minute guided tours on different themes.

In these visits, in which the students of the Challenge Programme have participated, it has been recalled that Mudejar is an art developed in the context of the coexistence of cultures, in which the characteristics of Eastern and Western art are mixed. The characteristics of the Eastern heritage have been explained. For example, Mudejar art inherits from Andalusian art the aesthetics of the mutable, i.e. for Muslims God is the only being that remains, while everything else is mutable or ephemeral. This is translated in art into the use of perishable materials. The tour also explores the figure of the Mudéjar master craftsmen and discusses ceramics, bricks, plaster and wood, materials that form an indissoluble part of the Mudéjar whole. The visits have included explanations on history and World Heritage and on the keys to the Mudejar through the fortress-churches and towers.

Mudéjar Territory showcases the potential of its heritage at ARATUR

Territorio Mudéjar returns to the Aragonese Tourism Fair (ARATUR), which held its 16th edition at the Zaragoza Conference Center from May 13 to 15 to a huge success. Some 13,000 people visited the fair, where Territorio Mudéjar had an exhibit where guided tours were offered and projects were presented:

  • Mudetrad, which seeks to enhance the territory through the recognition and dissemination of its traditional architecture.
  • Mudejar Wood, an online video publication that serves as a comprehensive guide to all the historic carpentry found in the towns of the Mudejar Territory
  • Podcast, a project to communicate about the Mudejar territory through a series of thematic podcasts that enhance, encourage, and complement visits to the area.

A raffle has also been held for two people to go to a village in the Mudejar Territory.

In total, around 300 people participated in the raffle, and more than 200 participated in the visits and project presentations held at the booth.

The stand was visited by, among others, the Director General of Tourism of the Government of Aragon, Gloria Pérez; Víctor Ruiz De Diego, Senator for the province of Zaragoza; Michel Arenas, President of the Calatayud DOP and Manager of the Calatayud Wine Route; Jose Ángel Calvo, Mayor of Gotor and President of the Aranda Region; and Agustín Serra, Manager of the sustainability plan The Hidden Face of Moncayo.

There they were welcomed by Territorio Mudéjar’s director, Victoria Trasobares, and collaborators Derry Holgado and Maru Gallego.

Winners of the ARATUR draw enjoy a visit to Tobed

Paula and Enrique were the winners of the draw for a visit to Territorio Mudéjar that we made among the visitors to our stand at the ARATUR tourism fair at the end of November. This weekend they have enjoyed their prize and they have chosen to do it in Tobed, where they have been able to get to know the Mudejar heritage declared World Heritage by UNESCO.

They themselves have told us that they are looking forward to participating in the Territorio Mudéjar routes to get to know the rest of the towns.
