In a strategic alliance with the Tourism Department of the Provincial Council of Zaragoza, we offer you fourteen routes accompanied by a complete tour of the Mudejar architecture of the villages of Territorio Mudéjar, starting in the mid-13th century and ending in the last decades of the 16th century.
You will be able to discover places full of life and activity and taste a rich gastronomy based on local produce and the tradition of the landscape on each of the proposed routes.
Tobed, Cervera de la Cañada and Calatayud
The Mudejar architecture of Aragon has been a Unesco World Heritage Site since 1986. with four buildings in the city of Teruel and with the extension in 2001 to Zaragoza, Calatayud, Cervera de la Cañada and Tobed with the incorporation of six buildings from the province of Zaragoza. This enlargement was key to understanding the true dimension and significance of Mudejar art in the Ebro valley and its tributaries, as well as the of Mudejar art in the Ebro valley and its tributaries, paradigmatic examples of the origin and development of a unique art that has that has endowed our territory with an international identity.

Mestizo and Border: Mudejar Villages
These routes take us to the places where the Christian, Jewish and Muslim cultures developed in an extraordinary and lasting way. The planned trips will allow us to understand how this period of cultural fusion is still clearly reflected today in the town planning, the houses and monuments of these villages that played an important role in the Aragonese territory during the 12th and 13th centuries.
Route 1. Mestizo and frontier: Mudejar villages.
Terrer, Villafeliche and Daroca
10.00h. Terrer. From the meeting point in the Plaza Bajo El Olmo, after the coffee offered by the town hall, we will go to the parish church and climb its bell tower.
12.00h. Villafeliche. We will meet in the Plaza Mayor to stroll through its streets and go up to the Calvario and then visit the pottery centres.
16.30h. Daroca. From the tower of Santo Domingo we will walk through the Moorish and Jewish quarters, ending our tour with a tasting of delicious almogábanas.

Route 2. Mestizo and frontier: Mudejar Villages .
Fréscano, Torrellas and Tarazona
10.00h. Fréscano. We will start at the Romanesque hermitage of the Virgen de la Huerta. Through the tour we will understand the Islamic urban planning and the link between the town and the water.
12.00h. Torrellas. The route proposed in Torrellas immerses us in its medieval past through the route of its Islamic streets. In the town we will make a stop for lunch and to recharge our batteries for the afternoon.
16.30h. Tarazona. We will be able to enjoy Mudejar monuments of great beauty and importance while we walk through the streets of the town. We will finish tasting some typical products.

Route 3. Mestizo and frontier: Mudejar Villages .
Saviñán, Mesones de Isuela, cALATORAO and la Almunia de Doña Godina
10.00h. Saviñán. We will enjoy such interesting monuments as the Palace of the Counts of Argillo to, Finally, we will visit the parish church, where the skull of Pope Luna is kept.
12.00h. Mesones de Isuela. The town planning and landscape of Mesones de Isuela surround the imposing castle of the Luna family, inside which we find a magnificent example of a Mudejar wooden structure.
16.00h. Calatorao. We will walk through the streets of Calatorao up to the highest point of the town, where we will find the castle of Arab origin that gives its name to the town.*
17.30h. La Almunia de Doña Godina. Our meeting point is the tower of the parish church, which houses an impressive Mudejar choir. The tour continues through La Almunia de Doña Godina where we will appreciate its medieval town planning.

Route 4. Mestizo and frontier: Mudejar Villages .
Fuentes de Ebro, Velilla de Ebro, Gelsa and Quinta
10.00h. Fuentes de Ebro. The meeting point is the parish church of San Miguel, we will walk through the streets of the town and finish in Rodén, a place of great beauty and special importance due to its main construction material: alabaster.
12.00h. Velilla de Ebro. Through the Velilla de Ebro route we will understand the development of urban and agricultural spaces in relation to water and its link with the Mudejar culture.
16.15h. Gelsa. The town of Gelsa conserves traces of the Islamic survival in the winding layout of its streets covered with calluses.
17.30h. Quinto. Our meeting point will be the Mudejar church called “El Piquete”, where the Museum of Mummies of Quinto is currently located. The route is completed with a walk around the town.

Keys to a style. The Origins
These routes allow us to immerse ourselves in the origins of the style: fully Western languages that evolved into a new language in which the Islamic constructive tradition gradually gained ground.
Route 5. Keys to a style. The origins.
Illueca, Villarroya de la Sierra and Torralba de Ribota
10.00h. Illueca. Our meeting point is the Palacio de los Luna, the birthplace of Benedict XIII, from where we will explain not only its architecture, but also the surrounding environment.
12.00h. Villarroya de la Sierra. The route starts at the parish church, from where we will walk through its winding streets and find outstanding examples of architecture such as the King’s and Queen’s castle.
16.30h. Torralba de Ribota. The visit to Torralba de Ribota focuses on the church of San Félix, one of the most outstanding examples of a fortress church in our territory.

Route 6. Keys to a style. The origins.
Zuera, Magallón and Tauste
10.00h. Zuera. From the well-known Arco de la Mora we will talk about Islamic tradition and materials. We will move on to one of the examples of proto-Mudejar architecture, the church of San Pedro, a link between Romanesque and Mudejar architecture.
12.30h. Magallón. We start from the old church of Nuestra Señora de la Huerta. We will walk through Magallón until we reach the Moorish and Jewish quarters, passing by the church of San Lorenzo.
16:30h. Tauste. We will find ourselves in the Plaza de la Iglesia de Santa María, which we will be able to visit inside, including climbing its tower to see the sunset.

Route 7. Keys to a style. The origins.
Pozuel de Ariza, Ariza and Ateca
10.00h. Pozuel de Ariza. The meeting point is the parish church where we can have a coffee. We will drive to the hermitage of Nuestra Señora de la Torre to see an impressive example of a Mudejar wooden structure.
12.00h. Ariza. The visit begins at the parish church. We will go up to the castle to enjoy a panoramic view of the town and its surroundings, and we will walk through its town planning, stopping at interesting examples of architecture.
16.30h. Ateca. From the lowest point of the town we will climb up to the castle and the parish church where we will see one of the oldest examples of Mudejar architecture, its tower.

Route 8. Keys to a style. The origins.
Alpartir, Cosuenda, Cariñena and Longares
10.00h. Alpartir. From the parish church square, we will tour the town explaining the main historical, urban and landscape examples that are linked to the Mudejar style.
12.00h. Cosuenda. The Lisalta tower marks the start of the route and is a perfect place to contextualise the town and its surroundings. You will also visit the wine cellar district and some outstanding examples of architecture and town planning.
16:00h. Cariñena. We start from the tower of the Nuns, visiting the parish church and some outstanding examples of medieval town planning such as the Jewish quarter.
17:30h. Longares. From the meeting point, the parish church, the main Mudejar monument of the town, the tower, is explained. The visit is completed with a tour of the popular architecture of Longares.

Bird's eye view. The towers
The incredible construction activity of different types of towers in medieval times in Aragon, and especially in the valleys of Zaragoza, offers us attractive itineraries with magnificent buildings that are the key constructive elements of the style.
Route 9. A Bird 's Eye View . Las Torres.
Aniñón, Belmonte de Gracián and Ricla
10.00h. Aniñón. The meeting point will be the Church of Nuestra Señora del Castillo, whose tower is a vestige of the Mudejar temple. We will be able to see its large decorated façade and walk through the town to the olive oil museum.
12.00h. Belmonte de Gracián. Al exterior de la iglesia de San Miguel podemos apreciar su ábside ornamentado y la torre. El interior del templo, nos descubre la estructura de su torre, así como una vista panorámica de la localidad.
16.30h. Ricla. We will meet at the church of the Asunción de Nuestra Señora, climb its tower and see the castle-palace. At the end of the tour, we will be able to taste local products.

Route 10. A Bird 's Eye View. Las Torres.
Romanos, Mainar, Villarreal de Huerva, Herrera de los Navarros and Villar de los Navarros
10.00h. Romanos. The route starts at the parish church, where we will explain the defensive enclosure that frames the construction of the church, from the top of the tower, to which we will have access, and its oldest example: the Mudejar tower.
11:30h. Mainar. We will have the opportunity to visit the church of Santa Ana and climb the tower, one of the last examples of Mudejar towers in Aragon, from where we will enjoy incredible views of the landscape.
13:00h. Villarreal de Huerva. From the defensive enclosure of the church of San Miguel Arcángel we will contextualise the town, the monument and its surroundings and then climb the church tower.
16:30h. Herrera de los Navarros. We will start our visit from the church of San Juan Bautista, one of the most striking examples of Mudejar architecture.
17:30h. Villar de los Navarros. We will be able to understand one of the most singular examples of Mudejar tower construction in our territory through a visit to the town and the ascent to the tower.

Route 11. A Bird's Eye View . Las Torres.
Utebo, Villamayor de Gállego and Muel
10.00h. Utebo. The tower known as the tower of mirrors will be the meeting point. Outside, we will talk about the Mudejar towers and their chronology, followed by a visit to the interior of the church and a climb up the tower.
12.00h. Villamayor de Gállego. We will meet at the church of the Asunción de Nuestra Señora. We will climb the tower to understand its structure and then walk to the sanctuary of the Virgen del Pueyo.
16.30h. Muel. The last meeting point will be at the foot of the tower of the parish church dedicated to San Cristóbal Mártir, from where we will walk along the Calle Mayor to the Hermitage of Nuestra Señora de la Fuente. On the route we will be able to understand the importance of Muel ceramics, present in many places in the town and its historical repercussion in many of the local businesses dedicated to ceramics.

The route of the fortress-churches takes us on a journey through urban centres designed for life in which the use of resources was compatible with respect for nature and the sustainability of the territory.
Route 12. The construction of Space. Light and Matter.
Maluenda, Morata de Jiloca and Acered
10.00h. Maluenda. The visit to the town focuses on the explanation of its abundant Mudejar monuments, starting with the church of Santas Justa and Rufina, passing through the church of San Miguel until arriving at the church of Santa María.
12.00h. Morata de Jiloca. The route focuses on a visit to the most outstanding Mudejar monument: the church of San Martín de Tours, with its particular structure of a fortress church and its impressive ceramic decoration on the façade.
16.30h. Acered. In Acered we can enjoy a stroll through the town, starting at the church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción. Its interior is richly decorated with plasterwork in the Islamic tradition. We will finish with a tasting of local products in the winery.

Route 13. The construction of Space. Light and Matter.
Borja, Castejón de Valdejasa and San Mateo de Gállego
10.00h. Borja. The meeting point will be at the former Collegiate Church of Santa María, where the museum is also located. We will continue our visit to the Casa de las Conchas and then go to the market square and walk through its streets to the old parish church of San Miguel, now the archaeological museum.
13.00h. Castejón de Valdejasa. We will meet at the Plaza Nueva, where the church of Santa María la Mayor is located. From here we will go to the Emilio Arrieta Park. We will continue with a walk through the town to the wineries. There will be a break for lunch.
16.30h. San Mateo de Gállego. We start the last route at the viewpoint of the Gállego river. Then we will go to the surroundings of the church of San Mateo Apóstol, having the opportunity to access its tower. We will finish at the Camarera irrigation channel.

Mudejar World Heritage
The collegiate church of Santa María in Calatayud, the church of Santa Tecla in Cervera de la Cañada and the church of the Virgin of Tobed are paradigms of the style that holds the Unesco World Heritage mark.
Route 14. Mudejar World Heritage.
Tobed, Cervera de la Cañada and Calatayud
9.30h. Calatayud. The meeting point is the mesón de la Dolores. From here you can take a city tour visiting the main monuments and neighbourhoods of the medieval period and the Collegiate Church of Santa María, the Mudejar part of which was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 2001.
12.30h. Cervera de la Cañada. From the lower part of the town , we stroll through the town and landscape to the church of and landscape to the church of Santa Tecla, declared World Heritage by Unesco in 2001, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2001.
16.30h. Tobed. The route begins at the Mahoma Calahorrí Mudejar Museum. From there, the urban route continues, taking in such interesting examples as the 16th century fish market and the church of the Virgin of Tobed, declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 2001.
